ABSTRACT: As an importantopportunistic fungal pathogen, the morphological plasticityis a prominent biological feature of Candida albicans. C. albicans can switch among a number of morphological phenotypes. Yeast-hyphaephenotypic transitionisa typical phenotypic transition system. Phenotypic transition is involved in the adhesion and invasiveness of C. albicans. The host related environmental factors act on Candida albicans, activate the corresponding signaling pathway, regulate the expression of downstream response genes, and regu- late the hyphal development of Candida albicans. According to current research on the conversion of Candida albicans morphology, that pathway widely and deeply are: the camp / protein kinase A (cAMP/PKA) signaling pathway, mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway, Rim101 mediated pH signaling pathway and Tup1 mediated negative regulation of signaling pathways regulating morphological transformation. In this review, we will focus on the development of phenotypic transitions and the regulatory mechanisms of signal transduction pathways in this pathogenic organism.
