Objective:To investigate the impact of age on short-term prognosis in the hospitalized patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).Methods:The data of 3431 patients hospitalized in department of CCU of the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University from 2003 to 2012 was collected. All patients were divided into four groups by age: youth group (age≤ 44), middle-age group (age 45 to 59), elderly group (age 60 to 79) and advanced age group (age≥ 80). Adverse cardiovascular events of all patients during hospitalization was detected including congestive heart failure of 538 cases, malignant arrhythmias of 134 cases, cardiogenic shock of 134 cases , cardiac rupture of 24 cases, death of 58 cases, joint events of 162 cases (including two or more adverse cardiovascular events). The occurrence of adverse cardiovascular events during hospitalization of patients in different age groups was analyzed. Results:The incidence of congestive heart failure, cardiac shock, death, cardiac rupture and allied events in the different four groups has a significant difference (P<0.05). In addition to the advanced age group, the incidence of adverse cardiovascular events in the other age groups was increased with age. Conclusion:Age is one factor affecting the short-termprognosis of patients with AMI. The incidence of adverse cardiovascular events in the patients under 80 years old with AMI during hospitalization have a tendency to increase with age, while the further study is still needed for the patients more than 80 years old.
