Objective:To investigate the efficacy of venlafaxine and sertraline on elderly patients with depression and their influence
on the cognitive function of the patients. Methods:A total of 80 elderly patients with depression, who were admitted to Nanning
Fifth People's Hospital of Guangxi Province from June 2012 to January 2014, were collected and randomly divided into observation
group(n=40) and control group(n=40). The observation group was treated with hydrochloric venlafaxine capsule, while the control group,
with sertraline. The changes of depression and cognitive function of two groups were evaluated by the appropriate scale; the incidence of
adverse events were recorded. Results:The effective rate in observation group was 90.0%and that in control group was 82.5%, the difference
was not statistically significant (P>0.05). HAMD score of observation group was better than that of control group after treatment
(P<0.05). There was significantly statistical difference in HAMD score between before and after treatment of two groups (P<0.05). There
was no statistical difference in Ra, Cc, Rc, Re, Rf, Rpe, nRpe between the two groups before treatment (P>0.05), but after treatment, observation
group was better than control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no statistical difference
in the incidence of adverse events between the two groups after treatment (P>0.05), which were relieved after symptomatic treatment. Conclusion:Both venlafaxine and sertraline can improve the depression and cognitive function of elderly patients with depression,
but the efficacy of venlafaxine is better than that of sertraline, with safety and reliability, which is preferred in the clinical treatment. |
