Objective:To investigate the expression of DEC1 in serum of patients with the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), as well as their clinical significances. Methods:The blood samples were collected from 60 patients with HCC, 30 patients with chronic hepatitis, 30 patients with chronic hepatic cirrhosis and 30 normal subjects. The reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to detect the expression levels of DEC1 in the serum. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to estimate the relationship between DEC1 and AFP. The correlations of DEC1 expression to the prognosis were analyzed. Results:The expression of DEC1 level in the serum of patients with HCC was significantly higher than those of the benign diseases and the healthy controls(P< 0.05). Pearson's correlation analysis showed that DEC1 expression level in serumhad a close correlation with AFP (P<0.05). The survival time of HCC patients with a lower DEC1 expression level was longer than those with a higher 1eve1, and the recurrent/metastatic of HCC patients with a lower DEC1 expression level was also lower than those with higher expression (P<0.05).Conclusion:The expression of DEC1 in serummay serve as a promising and prognostic biomarker for HCC.
