Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a bioactive lipid mediator that regulates a wide range of cellular processes through
its five specific cell-surface G protein-coupled receptors (S1P1-5). S1P4 is known as endothelial differentiation gene receptor 6 (Edg6),
which mainly be expressed in lymphoid tissue and hematopoietic tissue. S1P plays an essential role in the migration and differentiation of
immune cells, in the migration of skeletal muscle precursor cells, and in the proliferation of breast cancer cells and the TGFβ1 induced
inhibition of skeletal muscle cells apoptosis. In this article, we review the physiological and pathological processes in response to S1P
through S1P4 and related signaling mechanisms. |
