In use of ERP technique, the present study invstigated the effects of twirled Chinese characters and semantic priming
in low frequency word recognition. Twenty native Chinese undergraduates from Southwest University participated in the experiment
during which they were instructed to make a yes\no distinction. The behavioral data showed that twirled Chinses characters were more
difficult to be idendified than normal words. At 150-300ms interval, the main effect of twirled word was significant. At 300-450ms
interval, the main effect of semantic priming was significant. These findings supported that space transparency plays a leading role in
word recognition. RP reflects a visual structural step in the perceptual anslysis. N400 was related to automatic semantic activation. |
