ABSTRACT Objective: To observe the effects of frailty on anxiety and depression, immune function and cognitive function in elderly patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: 138 RA patients who were admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to December 2021 were selected, and patients were divided into frailty group and non-frailty group according to whether frailty occurred. The changes of anxiety and depression scores, immune function related indicators and cognitive function scores in frailty group and non-frailty group were compared. Results: Among 138 elderly RA patients, 91 had frailty, and 47 had no frailty. Patients were divided into frailty group (n=91) and non-frailty group (n=47) according to whether they were frail or not. The scores of self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS) in frailty group were higher than those in non-frailty group(P<0.05). CD3+, CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ in frailty group were lower than those in non-frailty group, and CD8+ was higher than that in non-frailty group (P<0.05). The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) score in frailty group were lower than those in non-frailty group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Frailty can increase the degree of anxiety and depression in elderly RA patients, and can also lead to a decline in immune function and cognitive function. |
