High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) can effectively penetrate deep into the interior of the body and be focused in
a small spatial region in deep tissue in a noninvasive way, leading to high levels of acoustic energy, which is absorbed by the tissue
resulting in local temperature increase. When the temperature reaches the phase transition melting temperature (Tm) of the liposomal
bilayer, the alkyl chains of the phospholipids will experience a conformational change, leading to an increase in the permeability of the
lipid bilayer, resulting in liposomal drug release Therefore, HIFU can be used as an external stimulus for local drug release from
thermosensitive liposomes (TSL) at the desired location within the body. This review gives an overview of the application and progress of
HIFU in drug delivery areas. |
